REDUCTION OF CONSULAR SERVICES
U.S. Embassy Vienna has suspended all routine consular services from April 1 until at least April 18, 2021. All applicants with previously scheduled appointments will be contacted to re-schedule. The Consular Section remains open for emergencies only.
The City of Vienna government has announced a hard lockdown from Thursday, April 1 through Saturday, April 18, due to increasing COVID-19 infection rates. Neighboring provinces of Burgenland and Lower Austria have also announced lockdowns. In compliance with government restrictions, U.S. Consulate Vienna has cancelled all routine consular appointments during the lockdown period.

American Citizen Services
- U.S. Consulate Vienna is open for emergency services only. If you have an urgent matter or need to travel immediately, please email ConsulateVienna@state.gov.
- Passport services: Applicants who are renewing an adult 10-year-passport (DS-82 form) can renew by mail. Check requirements for renewal by mail here. To renew by mail in Austria, Click here for details.
Non-Immigrant Visa and Immigrant Visa services
All visa appointments during the lockdown period are restricted to emergency travel only. If you have an emergency travel need, please e-mail ConsulateVienna@state.gov.
All travelers remain subject to Presidential Proclamation 10143, which suspends travel from the Schengen area including Austria, even if you have a valid U.S. visa or ESTA. For information on qualifying and applying for a National Interest Exemptions (NIE), please see our Embassy Visas page.
