U.S. Embassy Vienna advises of a rally and demonstration expected in downtown Vienna today (Wednesday, October 11, 2023).
Location: Announced gathering points are in Vienna’s 1st District
Events:
–Today (Wednesday, October 11, 2023), there will be a pro-Israel commemorative gathering from 6:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Ballhausplatz (near the Hofburg). Over 300 demonstrators plan to commemorate the victims of ongoing violence and stand in solidarity with Israel during the ongoing conflict with Hamas.
–Also today there will be a pro-Palestinian demonstration at Stephensplatz from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Police expect 100 demonstrators to rally in support of the Palestinian movement and their resistance against Israel.
There will be a police presence throughout the 1st district. Most demonstrations in Vienna are peaceful, orderly, and well-policed.

–If you see something that seems odd or out of place, notify the nearest law enforcement officer right away.
