Initiating the “U.S.-Austria Citizen Dialogue on Global Challenges,” the U.S. Embassy in Austria, together with the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs (BMEIA), hosted distinguished AI ethics and policy expert Merve Hickok. Hickok, the founder of AIethicist.org and President & Research Director at the Center for AI & Digital Policy, played a pivotal role in this joint venture.

Spanning January 16 to 17, 2024, this inaugural gathering marked the start of a series of essential discussions aimed at reinforcing transatlantic cooperation in addressing global challenges. Hickok spearheaded a series of keynote presentations in Vienna and Linz, interacted with local civil society and government leaders, and participated in various media interviews. These interactions promoted comprehensive dialogues on the integration of AI technology and ethics, highlighting the commitment of both countries to transparent and collaborative expert discourse.
