- U.S. passport photos must be 2″x 2″ (51mm x 51mm) in size with a plain white background and no glasses/eyewear.
- The default-sized European passport photos are too small.
- For a list of photographers that produce the correct sized photo, see below. You must specify to the photographer that you need the larger-sized photo for a U.S. passport photo, otherwise they will default to the wrong smaller size.
- For your convenience, there are two photo booths in our Consular waiting room that take U.S.-sized passport photos. The photo booths charge 8 Euros for 4 photos and accepts cash, credit cards, and mobile pay apps such as Apple Pay and Google Pay.
- Our photo booths cannot be used for photos of babies, toddlers or people with mobility issues, because the photo subject must be able to sit in the booth unassisted. In these situations, please refer to our local photographers list below.
- We prefer neutral expressions, but a natural, unexaggerated smile is ok. Complete photo requirements and examples can be found on the State Department website by clicking here.
